Peer Review Article Versus Popular Press Article on Lead...
Lead poisoning has been a concern for many years. In fact, because of the affects of lead poisoning, there has been an extensive decline in its use. Many people believe lead poisoning is no longer a threat, yet millions of homes contain lead based paint (Heck, J., 2005, para. 1). Exposure to lead at any level is unhealthy, especially in infants, children, and pregnant women and continues to be an ongoing dilemma in this country. I read two articles concerning lead poisoning; the first article is from FineTuning, a popular press and the second article is from Pediatrics, a peer-review journal. In this paper, I will clearly summarize each article by comparing the content of both articles. In addition, I will summarize the attention toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The author further goes on to explain what is being done about lead poisoning, and finally explaining how to know for sure if a person has lead poisoning and how to have your home tested for lead poisoning. The author pays gr eat attention to detail by providing facts to support the information provided in the article. For example, the author states, 75% of houses and other buildings built before 1978 have lead-based paint. When the paint is in good condition it does not pose a threat. When it chips and peels however, it can make a child very ill (Heck, Where does lead come from section, para. 1). This article clearly achieves its purpose, which is to inform the public about prevalence of lead and the ongoing risks associated with lead poisoning. This article is not about one specific case of lead poisoning, which is evident because the author talks about the history of lead use and the laws relating to lead use in this country. Similarly, in the article, The Need for Vigilance: the Persistence of Lead Poisoning in Children published in Pediatrics, a peer-review journal, the authors write the article with the intent of reiterating the need for medical professionals to remain vigilant with the accurate tr eatment of lead poisoning. The article in Pediatrics is written by doctors for clinical professionals and is based upon a report of a case of lead poisoning associated with ingestion of a toy necklace in a 4-year-old child (Florin, T., Brent, R.,

The Grapes of Wrath A Warning to the System Free Essays
The Grapes of Wrath, author John Steinbeck create s and shifts tone to show the failure of the economic system and how that failure causes peopleââ¬â¢s anger anger to grow inside them, like grapes, growing ripe for harvest. At the beginning of the chapter, the tone is positive. He describes California in the spring, using positive diction such as ââ¬Å"beautifulâ⬠and ââ¬Å"full green hillsâ⬠(Paragraph 1). We will write a custom essay sample on The Grapes of Wrath: A Warning to the System or any similar topic only for you Order Now H e also describes al of the crops, how the tree limbs ââ¬Å"bend gradually under the fruitâ⬠because t here is so much of it. Steinbeck makes nature seem perfect; the hills are ââ¬Å"round and soft as break SSTâ⬠and the men are ââ¬Å"of understanding and knowledgeâ⬠(paragraphs 2 and 3). He creates a sense o f hope which is only to be destroyed later on in the chapter. In paragraph 5, the fruit begins t o ripen. This is when money is introduced: ââ¬Å"Hell, we canââ¬â¢t pick ââ¬Ëme for that. â⬠Right away, with the nit reduction of money, the tone shifts from positive to negative. Words such as ââ¬Å"hellâ⬠and cool Ours like ââ¬Å"blackâ⬠and ââ¬Å"redâ⬠are used. The reason for this shift in tone IS because the starving pee people are angry because there is an over abundance of food that is just being wasted. Paragraph pH 12 simply says ââ¬Å"And the smell of rot fills the country. â⬠This describes all of the wasted food, the e word ââ¬Å"rotâ⬠insinuates that the economic system stinks. Sanchez 2 The last few paragraphs are a warning to the system. In paragraph 13, Steins eek uses parallelism: ââ¬Å"Burn coffee for fuel in the ships [s] laughter the pigs and bury t meâ⬠(paragraph 13). He does this to emphasize how this was deliberately being done just so a profit could be made. He writes about how crime ââ¬Å"goes beyond denunciationâ⬠(paragraph 14) . People are so desperate for food that they are willing to do anything to get it. Children die b cause ââ¬Å"a profit cannot be taken from an orange. â⬠All of these horrible things lead up to the la SST paragraph of the chapter; the warning to the system. People are trying to fish for potatoes that have just been dumped in the river, but the guards hold them back. They are trying to grab t he dumped oranges, ââ¬Å"but the kerosene is sprayed. â⬠Eventually, the hungry become furious. Food the at they could be eating is being wasted simply because a profit cannot be made from it. Their anger IS growing inside of them like the ââ¬Å"grapes of wrath,â⬠growing ripe for the harvest. The book title itself is used in this chapter. It is used to describe how peopleââ¬â¢s wrath is growing like grapes, ââ¬Å"growing heavy for the vintage. â⬠This indicates that some wing big is going to happen: the harvest. Obstacles to National Unity Essay Example For Students
Obstacles to National Unity Essay The obstacles to national unity Racial Inequality, Social Inequality, Religious inequality etc (1)Regionalism/Separatism (ii) Linguism (iii) Casteism and (iv) communalism. (i) Regionalism/Separatism: Regionalism or Separatism is the most advance obstacle in the way of National Unity and development. Above all regionalism and separatism are threatening to balkanize the country. Aggressive regionalism has gravely undermined the feeling of unity of the people. It creates a parochial outlook and narrow-mindedness. It is primarily a socio economic problem, related to the removal of the obstacles in the development of the people according to their genius and culture. The extremely uneven economic development of the different regions of India has created tensions and jealousy between the states as to which should get priority in the matter of new projects and industries. These tensions have their origin in genuine grievances of the regions and states that have been denied fair shares of projects and industries in the overall structure of development. The only way to do away with this imbalance in the development is to reduce and eliminate these disparities gradually. The importance of regional balance in economic development and social security as the positive factors for promoting national unity as well as in integration. Therefore, the rapid development of economically backward regions in any state should be given priority in national and state plans at least to the extent that a minimum level of development is reached for all states within a framed period. While this problem is not only an economic one, there is no doubt that a rapid and balanced economic development calculated to wipe out regional disparities would go a long way towards promoting national unity. Indias unity in the midst of diversity was stressed. (ii) Linguism: India is a multi lingual country. The language controversy started with Hindi being given the status of the official language of the Indian union. The people of the south revolted against it and threatened to go out of the Union if Hindi was imposed upon them. The constitution of India was amended to meet their demand. The plea of the south is that recognition of Hindi as the official language will be implication and in effect create conditions for the domination of one linguistic group over all others. The language issue is very sensitive one. We must not forget how passions were aroused on minor issues concerning reorganization of states on the linguistic basis. The linguistic fanaticism is had, but it has got to be tamed with love, understanding and accommodation not by adopting rigid attitudes and postures. Some solution to the problem which may be acceptable to all linguistic groups must be solved and evolved. Imposition of any language by force will only worsen the situation accordingly. (iii)Casteism : Casteism is another evil that stands in the way of complete national unity. The most shameful feature of the caste system is the existence untouchability, practiced against the people of the Scheduled Castes. The social oppression to which the people belonging to Scheduled Castes are subjected is one of the blackest spot on the fair name of India. Our constitution abolished untouchability and untouchability offences Act was passed in 1955, making the practice of untouchability a panel offence. But this practice still persists in our society in several shapes and forms but coming down in number games. When such a vast section of our population is forced to line in such horrible conditions of virtual apartheid, one can very well imagine how ironic and meaningless the talk of national unity must sound to the so called untouchables. .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c , .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c .postImageUrl , .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c , .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c:hover , .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c:visited , .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c:active { border:0!important; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c:active , .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4d5c2caedf85ec73f6f902cb0ecc3f7c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Lean On Me EssayA hard struggle lies ahead for those who seek to integrate these poor and unfortunate masses into the body of Indian society. The ultimate solution of the pernicious and inhuman problem of easteism lies in the carrying out of the radical agrarian reforms in the interests of the peasantry, rapid industrialization of both the urban and rural areas and spread of modern scientific education. (iv) Communalism: It is the most serious problem, that needs a permanent solution. There have been communal riots in the country before and even after the partition of India. It is a poison that has deep roots in our policy. India cannot make any headway in achieving the goal of national unity if communalism is allowed to raise its head again and again without any control. It will need a long and sustained effort to eradicate the evil of communalism. It would be wishful thinking to suppose that pious resolutions of the existing government of India will restore communal amity. It is essential to strike against the forces that sustain the poisonous tree of communalism. Apart from removing all misgivings among the minority community regarding their language, religion and culture, a law should be enacted to ban all propaganda that fosters the spread of communalism and also to provide for severe penalties for publication or dissemination in any manner, of false reports calculated to rouse communal passion for the time being. In the course of a long history, people of different races, religions and languages made their own contribution to the building up of India. But in spite of this diversity, India had always had a vasic unity and a peculiar and distinctive identity. Even though the achievement of political unity and freedom have confirmed this unity, various fissiparous and disruptive tendencies, such as regionalism, linguism, casteism and communalism, tends to disrupt the solidarity of the people. These disruptive tendencies have to be controlled and countered. While certain group loyalties on a religious and linguistic basis may continue, these should be subordinated to the national interest. Lastly, the need of the hour is to take all possible measures in all seriousness to eliminate the obstacles that come in the way. If this is neglected or not done, the consequences may be disastrous. Though efforts to remove the obstacles have succeeded in a certain measure, much more is required to be done. Unity is unique but Integrity to common.

USS Arizona Memorial Essay Example For Students
USS Arizona Memorial Essay December 7th, 1941, was the opening of World War 2, in the Pacific arena. In 1931, Japan invaded Chinas northern parts and then in 1937, Japan announced a full invasion of China. The United States couldnt just stand by and let Japan take over Asias parts, so they moved their fleets to Pearl Harbor. The strongest ships were the battleships, which were named after the states of the union. U.S. Arizona was made in 1915 and then was Rebuilt and updated in 1930. The ship was surrounded with over 8,000 tons of armor plating and had 14 guns that could shoot bullets over 20 miles. Since President Theodore Roosevelt didnt like that idea of just standing around and letting Japan take over Asia, he ordered that the U.S. stop all shipments and deliveries of American oil to Japan. American oil was very important to Japan and so they were upset and had to take charge. The U.S. knew that a surprise attack in Pearl Harbor could happen and they thought they were ready for it. U.S. Commanding officer Hudman E. Kimmel sent out his fleets to exercise and prepare just in case the Japanese decided to plan an attack. On November 26th, 1941, Japan sent 6 aircraft carriers to Hawaii. The U.S. had up to date radars, and anti- cap guns that could help protect Oahu.Wheeler Airforce base watched the skies and if signaled by Wheeler, Hickam Airforce base could attack the Japanese Fleets before they were even ready for the attack. The night before the attack, December 6th, 1941, the band on Arizona was holding a band concert on board and no one thought that that would be theyre last day of peace. We will write a custom essay on USS Arizona Memorial specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now At 6 a.m., 220 miles north of Oahu, the still undetected aircraft carriers of Japan sent their planes to Pearl Harbor. First they sent off the Fighters, then the Attack Planes (that had special bombs to hit and sink battleships, or Torpedos that were made to run in the shallow water of Pearl Harbor), and last were the Dive Bombers. There were 183 Japanese planes sent out in all. 30 minutes later another 167 planes left the carriers. Around the same time, the destroyer word sighted and sunk and 2 man midget submarine. Right after that the radar installation team sighted a huge flight of planes coming into the harbor. They notified the operators and Fort Shafter but the operator told them that it was probably just the B-17s that were due in from California that morning, and told them not to worry about it. The radar installation team was the first to detect the Japanese strike force. At 7:48 a.m., Kaneohe Bay was bombed and right after Fort Shafters planes and hangers were destroyed. O n the northern side of Ford Island, the cruiser ship Roly and the trainer ship Utah were hit. The Utah rolled over too quickly and anyone inside couldnt get out. 58 men went down with Utah. More torpedo planes came in through the south entrance of Pearl Harbor and attacked Oklahoma, California and West Virginia. West Virginia settled in the shallow waters. California almost cap-sized but then quickly counter flooded and she also sank up right. Oklahoma rolled over so quickly, 115 men were trapped inside. A few minutes after 8 a.m., Arizona was bombed. The bomb went through the deck and collided with the forward ammunition magazine that caused tons of ammunition to explode. In the explosion, 1,177 men died without even knowing what hit them. Around 8:50 a.m., the second wave of Japanese crafts pulled into the Harbor. The second wave hit Hickam and Wheeler Army Base again. The smoke from all the explosions gave some cover from the Japanese planes but they soon spotted Nevada, already damaged and barely running, trying to make it to sea. The torpedo planes charged Nevada bombing her decks. The Captain soon pulled The Nevada to rest in the shallow waters of Hospital Point to avoid blocking the channel. .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b , .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b .postImageUrl , .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b , .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b:hover , .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b:visited , .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b:active { border:0!important; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b:active , .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ua9532b1036881f9af57287bbad6d087b:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: AGAINST MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION EssayAt 10:00 a.m., the Japanese planes left. Japanese Translation - Translating from Japanese
Japanese Translation - Translating from Japanese Choosing the right words for a translation can be difficult. Some sentences are translated literally, word by word. However, most sentences can be translated in many different ways. Since Japanese verbs have a formal and informal form and there is also male and female speech, the same sentence can sound quite different depending on how it is translated. Therefore it is important to know the context when translating. Being able to translate can be fun and rewarding when learning a language. After you learn the basics of Japanese, I recommend you to try to translate a sentence yourself first before asking for help. The more you practice, the better you get. Dictionaries You might want have a good English-Japanese/Japanese-English dictionary. Electric dictionaries and online dictionaries are also widely available nowadays. Although standard dictionaries canââ¬â¢t compete for content with an online dictionary, I still like to look up words the old fashion way. Learning about Particles You also need to have a little knowledge about particles. They are an important part of Japanese sentences. Sentence-ending particles are often used to distinguish male and female speech as well. Online Translations Online translation services like Google Translate and Bing Translator are not always reliable, but you can get rough idea of the meaning in a pinch. Translation Services If your translation is something bigger or beyond your knowledge, you could seek professional help form a translation service.

Why did God become man in Jesus Christ Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Why did God become man in Jesus Christ - Essay Example How the death of Jesus Christ, as a man, could become an act of redemption for all human beings is further explained by St. Athanasius. It is revealed that ââ¬Å"in His death all might die, and the law of death thereby be abolished because, having fulfilled in His body that for which it was appointed, it was thereafter voided of its power for men.â⬠And this became the completion of a circle that started when man was banished from the Garden of Eden with the cure of death fallen upon him. And this is why as Corinthians 15:22 says, ââ¬Å"in Adam, all dieâ⬠but in Jesus, all resurrect. Such an intervention by God became imperative just because man had once ââ¬Å"shared the nature of the Wordâ⬠but the same man was now the slave of corruption, made so by the ââ¬Å"deceitâ⬠of the devil. As the second coming of Jesus as indicated in the Messianic prophesy, is to impart the ââ¬Å"final death blowâ⬠to Satan, this second coming in all possibilities will not be in the form of man again. The Revelation 001:007 of the Bible has made a record of this second coming and has said, ââ¬Å"behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, including those who pierced him.â⬠From the allusion to the clouds, it is clear that Jesus is not coming the second time as a man, a mortal. Hence it has to be concluded that only the first coming of Jesus is the first and last instance in which he is coming as a mortal. This is the real rarity of the situation.
